Terms of Use
Effective date: 8 February 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Company 31 website (the “Site”) and the content made available through it. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms.
1. Definitions
- “Content” means all text, articles, research notes, audio, video, graphics, logos, design elements, and other materials on the Site, excluding code released under an open-source licence.
- “Lab Code” means source code and related assets that Company 31 explicitly publishes under the MIT License (for example, through the Lab page or a repository).
- “You” means any person who accesses or uses the Site.
2. Copyright and ownership
Unless stated otherwise, the Content on this Site is owned by Company 31 and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. All rights are reserved.
3. Limited permission for personal use and inspiration
We want people to learn. You may copy and use unmodified extracts of the Content for:
- Personal, non-commercial reference (for example, saving or printing for your own reading); and
- Inspiration (for example, using ideas and themes to inform your own work), provided you do not reproduce the Content itself beyond what is permitted below.
This permission is subject to the conditions in Section 4.
4. What you must not do without consent
Unless you have our prior written consent (or a separate licence from us), you must not:
- Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works from the Content (including publishing altered versions).
- Reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, license, or make available the Content (in whole or substantial part) to others, including on websites, newsletters, social media pages, courses, or AI training datasets.
- Remove copyright notices, trademarks, or attribution embedded in the Content.
- Use the Content commercially, including in products, paid communities, or marketing collateral.
Simple rule: You’re welcome to read, save, and share small, unmodified excerpts privately. If you want to publish, adapt, or repurpose Content publicly (even for free), ask first.
5. Quotes and attribution
Short quotations for commentary or review are generally fine where permitted by law. If you quote us publicly, please attribute the quote to Company 31 and link to the original page where practical. Quoting does not grant permission to reproduce substantial parts of an article or resource.
6. Open-source code (MIT License)
Lab Code that is explicitly published under the MIT License is governed by the MIT License terms that accompany that code. Where there is any conflict between the MIT License and these Terms, the MIT License governs for that Lab Code.
For clarity: the Site Content (writing, media, branding, and design) is not released under MIT unless we explicitly state otherwise.
7. Trademarks
“Company 31” and associated logos and brand elements may be protected as trademarks or trade dress. You must not use them in a way that suggests endorsement, affiliation, or partnership without written permission.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Site unlawfully or in a way that could harm the Site, our users, or our reputation.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, systems, or data.
- Scrape the Site at scale, or use automated tools that materially degrade performance (unless you have our permission).
9. Third-party links
The Site may link to third-party resources. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content or practices. Use them at your own discretion.
10. Disclaimers
Content on the Site is provided for general information and educational purposes only. It is not professional advice (including legal, financial, cybersecurity, or medical advice). You should obtain appropriate advice for your specific situation.
While we aim for accuracy, we make no warranties that the Content is complete, current, or error-free.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Company 31 will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Site or Content. Where consumer guarantees apply and cannot be excluded, our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.
12. Changes to the Site and Terms
We may update the Site or these Terms from time to time. We will post updated Terms on this page and update the effective date. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
